Nancy Parent is a favorite author of my daughter’s.  She has taken a great interest in these simple yet fun books.  Her favorite books are the Jo-Jo’s Circus Train series.  There are four books in this group: Willy Nilly Clowns, Lovey Dovey Lions, Flapping Tapping Elephants, and Oodles of Poodles.  This series of books is a great choice for younger readers.  The pictures are fun and easy to understand and interact with.  My daughter and I will identify objects in all of the books and talk about them.  The story is also easy to understand.  They are short and simple.  Nancy Parent lives in Pasadena, California and is author of over 75 children’s books.  She began her publishing career at Grosset and Dunlap editing mass-market and trade children’s, and YA paperbacks.

Reading is a critical skill for everyone! From the moment your child is born, there are simple things you can do to help him or her become a good reader.

Parents are a child’s first teacher. Babies and toddlers learn a lot at home. Several things that can be done around the house to help your little one develop into readers are:

  • Talk, talk, talk!
  • Read to your child.
  • Point out interesting words as you read.
  • Talk about books.
  • Connect what kids already know to what they hear or read.
